New Cabinet to Start the New Year in Manitoba

Today Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister announced several significant changes to his cabinet with three new members and six changing responsibilities. The new members are:

  • Wayne Ewasko, MLA for Lac du Bonnet as the Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Immigration

  • Derek Johnson, MLA for Interlake-Gimli as the Minister of Municipal Relations

  • Audrey Gordon, MLA for Southdale as the Minister of Mental Health, Wellness and Recovery

Remaining in cabinet but changing portfolios are:

  • Kelvin Goertzen, MLA for Steinbach, Deputy Premier and Minister of Legislative and Public Affairs

  • Heather Stefanson, MLA for Tuxedo, Minister of Health and Seniors Care

  • Ralph Eichler, MLA for Lakeside, Minister of Economic Development and Jobs

  • Cliff Cullen, MLA for Spruce Woods, Minister of Education

  • Cameron Friesen, MLA for Morden-Winkler, Minister of Justice and Attorney General

  • Rochelle Squires, MLA for Riel, Minister of Families

Minister Goertzen remains as house leader, and Minister Squires retains responsibility for franchophone affairs. Minister Gordon also becomes the first black minister in the province’s history. Eight ministers retained their portfolios, and including the Premier, cabinet now has 18 members. Mandate letters for all ministers will be released at a later date.
