This afternoon, Premier Jason Kenney shuffled his cabinet in a ceremony at Government House in Edmonton officiated by the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, The Honourable Salma Lakhani. Amid calls for the Premier’s resignation from Constituency Associations and Party Board Members over the Government’s management of the 4th wave of COVID-19, Premier Kenney shuffled Minister of Health, Tyler Shandro and Minister of Labour, Jason Copping. This shuffle follows a larger shuffle completed by the Premier in July 2021.
With the new shuffle, Minister Shandro will now serve as Minister of Labour and Immigration, while Minister Copping will serve as Minister of Health, overseeing the Government’s response to the 4th wave of the pandemic.
Last week, amid rising case numbers, ICU admissions and hospitalizations, the Government had to acknowledge that they moved forward too quickly on the Open for Summer Plan, and as a result declared a Public Health Emergency, implementing new restrictions and a “Restriction Exemption Program” for those who are vaccinated.
