Prairie Sky Strategy was pleased to attend the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce’s third annual Food, Fuel, and Fertilizer Global Summit on April 8-9 in Regina, Saskatchewan. This premier international event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to explore Saskatchewan’s pivotal role in global trade and sustainable development.
The summit aimed to address the growing global demand for resources and showcase Saskatchewan’s leadership in the food, fuel, and fertilizer industries. The event featured a packed schedule with keynote speeches, panel discussions, and networking opportunities designed to foster collaboration and innovation.
One of the central themes of the summit was the importance of trade and infrastructure in supporting the food, fuel, and fertilizer sectors. Discussions focused on how Saskatchewan’s strategic location and robust infrastructure can facilitate efficient trade routes and enhance global supply chains. Experts highlighted the need for investment in infrastructure to ensure the province remains a key player in international markets, especially given the current trade climate with the United States, typically a reliable market for Saskatchewan commodity exports.
Energy security was another critical topic at the summit. With the world facing increasing energy demands, Saskatchewan’s role in providing reliable and sustainable energy solutions was emphasized. In a fireside chat, Prairie Sky Strategy Senior Strategist Kevin Doherty spoke with Cameco CCO Rachelle Girard regarding the global outlook for the nuclear industry and outlined how the province’s vast reserves of uranium position it as a leader in the global energy sector.
Sustainability was a recurring theme throughout the summit. Saskatchewan’s commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and low-carbon and zero-emissions energy sources was showcased as a model for other regions. The summit highlighted how sustainable practices in food production, energy generation, and fertilizer use can contribute to global efforts to combat climate change and ensure long-term resource availability.
The summit featured a lineup of distinguished speakers, including Premier Scott Moe, who delivered the opening keynote address titled “Saskatchewan: Food and Energy Security the World Needs.” Premier Moe emphasized the province’s role in meeting global food and energy needs through sustainable practices and innovative solutions.
Other notable sessions included panel discussions on the future of agriculture, the role of technology in resource management, and the impact of global trade policies on the food, fuel, and fertilizer industries.
The Food, Fuel, and Fertilizer Global Summit underscored Saskatchewan’s leadership in sustainability, reliability, and innovation. By focusing on trade, export, and infrastructure, the summit explored how the province can contribute to the global ecosystem, positioning Saskatchewan as a compelling destination for investment and a vital hub in the global supply chain.
The 2025 Food, Fuel, and Fertilizer Global Summit was a resounding success, highlighting Saskatchewan’s critical role in addressing global resource challenges. The event provided a platform for meaningful discussions, innovative ideas, and collaborative efforts that will help shape the future of these essential industries. As the world continues to grapple with resource demands and environmental concerns, Saskatchewan’s leadership and commitment to sustainable development will be more important than ever.
