Saskatchewan Minister Leaves Politics, Causing Minor Cabinet Shuffle

Today, Saskatchewan’s Minister of SaskBuilds and Procurement, Joe Hargrave, officially announced he has chosen not to seek re-election this fall and requested to step down from his ministerial duties.

“My family and I have given this a lot of consideration and have decided I just can’t commit to another four years as MLA,” Hargrave said in a statement.
The announcement was followed by Premier Moe appointing Terry Jenson as the new Minister of SaskBuilds and Procurement.  This marks Jenson’s first entry into Cabinet.  He was elected as the MLA for Martensville-Warman in the 2020 provincial election and has served as the Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Immigration and Career Training.

In addition to this appointment, Premier Moe made some minor adjustments to his cabinet.  The Honourable Lori Carr, the current Minister of Highways, has been named the new Government House Leader and the Honourable Paul Merriman, the Minister of Corrections, Policing & Public Safety, has taken on the role of Deputy House Leader.

This cabinet shuffle comes just months ahead of the upcoming Saskatchewan election.  The 2024 Saskatchewan general election will be held on or before October 28, 2024.  The Saskatchewan Party is planning to nominate a new candidate for the Prince Albert Carlton constituency in the upcoming weeks to replace Mr. Hargrave.
