Saskatchewan Shuffles Deputy Ministers

Deputy Minister to the Premier, Raynelle Wilson, recently announced changes to the Saskatchewan Government’s team of deputy ministers. Traditionally, a deputy shuffle follows a cabinet shuffle, and this time around was no exception. This is most likely the last significant change to the government’s senior leadership before going into the fall sitting of the legislature which starts October 25th.

Coming into force later this month, there will be a series of changes within the Deputy Minister’s group:

Susanna Laaksonen-Craig is leaving the Saskatchewan Government to become the Deputy Minister of Mines in Ontario. Replacing Susanna at Energy and Resources is Blair Wagar, currently the Deputy Minister (DM) of Highways.

Kyle Toffen, formerly DM of SaskBuilds will move to the Ministry of Highways.

Denise Macza, currently DM of Advanced Education, will become the new Deputy Minister of SaskBuilds.

New to the Deputy Minister table is the new DM of Advanced Education, Rebecca Carter, who currently is an assistant deputy minister at the Ministry of Health.

The Saskatchewan Legislature reconvenes Oct 10 for a special session to deal with legislation around the recently announced Education policy regarding the use of pronouns in the school system for students under the age of 16.  The Speech from the Throne to open the new Legislative Session is set for Oct 25, 2023.
