Job Title: Summer Student-Junior Associate

Prairie Sky Strategy is a strategy, public affairs, public relations, Indigenous relations and business development consulting firm headquartered in Calgary and operating across Western Canada and in Ottawa.

We are seeking a Summer Student-Junior Associate to join our team. This role is ideal for a political science, public administration or economics student available for a summer term, with the potential to transition into a permanent position at the end of the summer term.

We also welcome applications from individuals early in their careers with experience in political science, public policy, communications, government relations, or related fields. The ideal candidate is highly organized, enjoys and is experienced in government and public policy, and is eager to learn (and contribute to) how strategy, policy, and client service intersect in a dynamic consulting environment.

Our head office is based in Calgary; however, we will accept applications from candidates located in other areas of western Canada who are able to work remotely.

Job Summary

This is a hybrid role combining Junior Associate responsibilities (research, client service preparation and support and strategy implementation) with some administrative support for Advisors and the broader Prairie Sky team. The Junior Associate will play an important role in supporting client work while helping ensure internal operations run smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Summer Student-Junior Associate / Client Support

  • Support Advisors in implementing client service, acquisition and retention strategies
  • Prepare materials for regular client update meetings
  • Conduct research on political, policy, regulatory and stakeholder issues
  • Prepare high-quality materials including reports, briefing notes and slide decks
  • Support and assist with business development initiatives
  • Assist with coordinating and arranging client and stakeholder meetings

Administrative Support

  • Prepare, edit and proof professional documents, proposals and client materials
  • Maintain and update contact databases and distribution lists
  • Assist with event planning, including venue research, invitations, RSVPs and on-site support
  • Support electronic mailouts
  • Support with managing calendars, schedule meetings and coordinate logistics

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in political science, public administration, public policy, communications or a related field and/or relevant experience in government relations, public affairs or a professional services environment
  • Strong research, writing and document-preparation skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Professional, clear and confident communicator (written and verbal)
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with a team
  • Discreet, trustworthy and able to handle confidential information
  • Outgoing, personable and values work-life balance
