Experience:

Paul Merriman

Senior Counsel

Paul Merriman was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, where he spent his formative years. His family relocated to Saskatchewan when he was in his teens, eventually settling down in Saskatoon, where he currently resides.

Paul’s professional career began working on a farm, where he learned the value of hard work. His entrepreneurial spirit soon led him to transition into car care business, where he gained experience in marketing, client service and retention and managing a payroll. This experience proved invaluable when he moved on to a management role at SaskEnergy, Saskatchewan’s natural gas utility.   Paul’s commitment to community service was evident as he moved on to lead the Saskatoon Food Bank as CEO. Over the course of four years, he led the organization with dedication and vision, addressing food insecurity and supporting vulnerable populations in the community.

Paul’s political career began when he was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Saskatoon. Over his 13-year tenure, he held numerous diverse portfolios, showcasing his versatility and expertise. As House Leader, Paul gained an in-depth understanding of the legislative process and the inner workings of the Assembly. His role as Legislative Secretary for Immigration and Trade allowed him to navigate complex systems at various levels of government, further broadening his experience.

From 2017 to 2024, Paul served in the provincial Cabinet, holding several key ministerial positions. As Minister of Social Services, he worked tirelessly to improve the welfare of Saskatchewan residents. In his role as Minister of Health, he oversaw critical healthcare initiatives and policies and led Saskatchewan through the management of the COVID Pandemic. Following this, as Minister of Corrections, Policing, and Public Safety, Paul played a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of the province.

Paul’s broad range of experiences and unwavering commitment to his community have provided him with a unique perspective on Saskatchewan including business, the not for profit sector and government.

Outside of professional life, Paul enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and running.
