DAN NIELSEN

Senior Strategy Advisor

Dan Nielsen is a born and raised Edmontonian who brings over 15 years of experience working in municipal government with the City of Edmonton and through liaising with other municipalities – both urban and rural – across Canada, the United States, and around the world. He spent 13 years working in Edmonton’s City Hall with over eight years in the Mayor’s Office across two Mayors serving as a senior advisor. In addition, he has held leadership roles in campaigns ranging from school board trustees, municipal, provincial and federal elections.

Dan has extensive experience related to research, strategic analysis, and policy development in multiple policy areas providing full policy cycle expertise including issue identification, research, analysis, implementation, evaluation, and revisions/editing in the development of policy, review of impacts and effectiveness. He also has experience in developing communication strategies for social media platforms, traditional media, public presentations and speeches.  

When not working, Dan has significant involvement in the community, serving on boards for not-for-profit arts and sports organizations, and has helped lead local social support groups for Young Adult Cancer Canada. For better or worse, Dan is a lifelong Edmonton Oilers fan, and is a big supporter of the growing baseball market in the Edmonton region.
